China-funded water plant to feed drinking water to Gwadar residents

To tackle Gwadar’s water crisis, a China-funded 1.2 MGD desalination plant is now ready to supply 7–8 million gallons of drinking water to local residents. With Ankara, Swad, and Shadi Kaur Dams running dry due to low rainfall, the Balochistan government approved water purchase from this plant on July 8. The project, worth Rs2 billion, was completed in collaboration with GPA, NESPAK, and CHEC. A 1 km supply line links the plant to the city’s main water network, while GDA has also installed 141 km of pipelines and completed a 158 km pipeline from nearby dams to ensure reliable water access.
