Cabinet committee considers routing 60% public sector imports through Gwadar Port

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, chaired a cabinet committee meeting to strategize routing 60% of public sector imports via Gwadar Port. Key stakeholders, including the Minister for Maritime Affairs and senior officials, discussed enhancing Gwadar’s role in importing wheat, sugar, and fertilizer. The committee proposed integrating Gwadar into the national trade framework and exploring private sector engagement. Initiatives include improving logistics, road, and rail connectivity, ensuring security, and addressing cost disparities with Karachi. Gwadar’s regional trade potential, including transshipment with Afghanistan and Central Asia, was also highlighted.
